Placement - a problem of plenty?

The 2013 batch of engineering students are almost at the end of their 4 year program. Many have completed the final exams and are in the wait for the final results and the degree certificate to move on. This batch has been an unfortunate lot when in comes to campus placements. Barring a few campuses which are exceptions, the majority have fared much below their previous years’ performance. The colleges can now move on, marking an uncomfortable statistic in their charts, hoping for a better performance with the next batch. But what about the unfortunate lot of students who could not make the cut?

MBA............... Seriously?

Recently, on a visit to a bank, I happened to interact with the sales manager. On casual interaction I communicated to him that I am a placement trainer. Suddenly, he asked me whether there are any suitable candidates for sales openings in the bank. Given the wide variety of students that I meet, I asked about the requirement in a little more detail. The condition that he gave me was that he did not want any MBA graduate. It was perplexing; sales and strictly no MBA! I asked why? He said that almost all MBA students that came to him before had attitude problems and that they do not stick around.

I am sure that you would put your best foot forward to impress him or her. I am also sure that you would take pains to structure your answer in such a way that it impresses him or her. I am also sure that you would like to paint a very good picture of yourself and make sure that you would tell all the wonderful things you have done in your life.
